Between 11.11 and Qatar National Day on 18 December, Gulf ecommerce produces its biggest revenue weeks of the year. It also produces the most expensive traffic, the deepest discounts and, for brands that plan the season around a revenue target instead of a margin target, the most profitless growth anywhere on the calendar. White Friday 2026 lands on 27 November. Whether that week builds your P&L or burns it is decided now, in the planning window, not in the week itself.
01 · The seasonWhite Friday, 11.11 and the month they turned into
White Friday is the Gulf's Black Friday, renamed by Souq.com in 2014 because the word black carried the wrong meaning in a region where Friday is the day of prayer. It worked from the start: by its second edition in 2015, Souq counted 13 million visitors and 600,000 items sold between 25 and 28 November across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt. Amazon, which later acquired Souq, still frames White Friday as a four day event, 24 to 27 November in 2024, and lists adoption across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Egypt.
In practice, the day is now a month. Marketplace promotions open around 1 November, 11.11 arrives as the first spike of the season, and last chance offers run into early December. noon ran its biggest ever 11.11 sale from the evening of 7 November to 12 November 2025, with discounts of up to 80% across fashion, tech, home and food. Salla's seasons calendar lists White Friday 2026 on 27 November and tells merchants to start preparing about 6 weeks ahead. If you are reading this in late October, that window is already open.
02 · DemandWhat the season does to demand, from data we can verify
The most recent public reading of the season comes from a study by the gifting marketplace Flowwow and the affiliate network Admitad, reported by Khaleej Times. The 2024 season generated 40% more revenue than 2023 across MENA, on roughly 20% more orders. For the 2025 season, the same study projected GMV up 14%, order volumes up 11% and gifting purchases up 65%.
Baskets
UAE shoppers averaged about $103 per order, up from $95, against a MENA average near $38. The Emirates and Saudi Arabia carry the region's basket value through the season.
Categories
Electronics grew 22% and fashion 21% season over season, the two default categories of the peak. Gifting is the fastest riser in the dataset.
Behaviour
Only 14% of shoppers leaned on coupons, while 21% preferred cashback or loyalty offers. The audience hunts value, not just stickers.
An honest caveat: this is marketplace and affiliate network data, not a census, and it skews toward the platforms that published it. Two conclusions survive any error bar. The Gulf's baskets are the deepest in MENA during the season, and the event is drifting from an electronics clearance toward a gifting occasion. If your product is giftable at all, your White Friday plan should include gift sets, not only percentages.
03 · CalendarThe Q4 2026 dates that move your auction and your stock
| Date | Event | Markets | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11 Nov | 11.11, Singles Day | UAE, KSA | The first spike. Launch seasonal campaigns about 10 days earlier to build signal. |
| 18 Nov | Oman National Day | Oman | A light local push in a cheaper auction. |
| 27 Nov | White Friday, then Cyber Monday on 30 Nov | All GCC | The peak. Audiences must be warm by 13 Nov; nothing launches cold after 20 Nov. |
| 2 Dec | UAE National Day | UAE | A gifting angle on the warm pool, not cold prospecting. |
| 16 Dec | Bahrain National Day | Bahrain | Local pride creative, small budgets. |
| 18 Dec | Qatar National Day | Qatar | Gifting and local pride, retargeting first. |
| ~8 Feb 2027 | Ramadan begins | All GCC | About five weeks after the January reset. Ramadan creative must be approved in January. |
For what these weeks do to CPMs market by market, our Gulf Meta Ads benchmark report carries a dedicated Q4 section with per-market planning ranges. This article stays on the commercial side: offers, stock and margin.
04 · The auctionAd costs spike, and orders still get cheaper
The best public measurement of the peak comes from Lebesgue's analysis of $22.6 million in Meta spend from September through November 2025. On the peak Friday itself, brands paid 84% more per 1,000 impressions than in September. Across the peak week, the median increase was 59%, the middle half of accounts paid between 59 and 116% more, and Cyber Monday ran 71% above baseline.
Here is the part most founders miss: the same dataset shows purchases per link click up 48% during the week, cost per purchase down 20%, and platform-reported ROAS up 19%. Demand rises faster than the auction. The peak is not expensive; arriving unprepared is. And the start keeps moving: in 2025 the CPM climb only began in the week of 10 November, roughly a month later than in 2024, when it started in mid-October. You cannot time a spike whose start moves by four weeks. You can only be warm before any plausible start.
A geography caveat: that dataset is global and weighted toward Western accounts. The GCC adds its own National Day spikes in December, and on 3 December the global CPM was still 20% above baseline. December in the Gulf is not a cooldown; it is where retargeting and owned channels do the work.
Run this arithmetic before you pick a discount
The numbers below are illustrative and round, not a benchmark; put your own in the same frame. Take a product that sells at AED 200 with AED 90 of variable cost per order: landed product, fulfilment, payment fees. That leaves AED 110 of contribution, a 55% margin, and a breakeven ROAS of roughly 1.8. Now apply a 25% sitewide discount. The price falls to AED 150, the costs stay at AED 90, contribution drops to AED 60 and the margin to 40%. Your breakeven ROAS just rose to 2.5, at exactly the moment the auction gets most expensive.
Set that against the demand data. The 48% conversion lift in peak week is real, but it pays for one thing. It can absorb higher CPMs, or a deeper discount. Ask it to absorb both, plus free shipping, plus a buy now pay later fee, and the biggest revenue week of your year quietly becomes its least profitable. The fee mechanics are covered in our BNPL report, and if a share of your orders is still cash on delivery, remember that refusals rise with impulse purchases: our COD playbook covers that tax.
The stack is what kills margin, not the discount. A sitewide percentage, a free shipping threshold, a marketplace voucher and a BNPL fee are usually approved in four different conversations. Put every concession on one offer sheet, price it against contribution per SKU, and sign it off before 1 November. After that date, nothing gets added in the heat of the week.
Discount architecture that protects the season
A handful of products take the deep, visible discount. They exist to win the click and the comparison table. Cap their share of stock.
The rest of the catalogue sells through bundles and gift sets. A set raises AOV and hides depth; a sticker gives margin away on orders you would have won anyway.
Your WhatsApp and email base gets early access at a shallower discount. Loyalty buys the privilege of hours, not a deeper price.
The gifting projection, up 65%, is the quiet opportunity in the data. Gift sets convert seasonal intent without touching your unit price, they suit the UAE and Qatar National Day windows, and they sell through the channels you own. Early access through WhatsApp and email flows costs nothing at auction, which matters most in the exact weeks when the auction runs 59 to 116% more expensive.
07 · TimelineThe season, week by week from today
- Now to 6 November: build. A creative library with Arabic hooks and gifting angles, catalogue hygiene, the signed offer sheet, stock allocated per event, tracking verified end to end.
- 1 November: 11.11 goes live. A moderate offer whose job is signal: it warms the pixel and the lists before the peak, and tests which creative deserves peak budget.
- 13 November: last cold launch. Prospecting runs at full budget from here. Anything launched cold after 20 November pays the peak auction with no history.
- 27 to 30 November: the peak. Floor prices enforced, stock watched daily, and a pre-agreed kill rule for any ad set that breaks your breakeven ROAS for two days.
- 1 to 18 December: the National Days. The UAE on 2 December, Bahrain on 16 December, Qatar on 18 December. Gifting creative on the warm pool, and the owned channels carry the weight.
- January: reset. Back to full price, a margin review per SKU, and Ramadan creative approved before the end of the month. Ramadan 2027 begins around 8 February, and the Ramadan playbook starts well before it.
Who gets paid when you discount
White Friday is the best month of the year to be an agency paid a percentage of ad spend. Budgets double into the most expensive auction of the year, and the fee doubles with them, whether the margin survived or not. A fixed retainer is no better: it arrives in full even if the season closed at a loss, and a 30 day notice period means the relationship can end before the January numbers are honest. Neither structure rewards the one conversation that protects you in October: cut the depth, cap the stack, protect contribution.
BIMO is paid a share of the profit plus a minority equity stake, set after an audit. A discount stack that burns your P&L burns our fee with it, which is why the offer sheet in the accounts we manage is planned from contribution margin backwards, not from a revenue screenshot. If that sounds like the season you would rather run, read how the Growth Partner programme works, or the market version for brands selling in the UAE.
White Friday punishes improvisation more than any week in Gulf ecommerce. The auction premium is survivable; the data says orders actually get cheaper for brands that arrive warm. What is rarely survivable is a discount stack assembled in the heat of the week. In the accounts we manage, we treat 11.11 as the signal builder, White Friday as the harvest, the December National Days as gifting retargeting, and January as the reset before Ramadan. The brands that lose Q4 are almost never the ones that discounted too little.
Questions founders ask us
When is White Friday 2026 in the GCC?
Salla's seasons calendar lists White Friday 2026 on 27 November, with Cyber Monday following on 30 November. In practice, marketplaces open offers around 1 November and 11.11 delivers the first spike on 11 November, so treat the whole month as the season.
Is White Friday the same as Black Friday?
Same mechanics, renamed for the region. Souq.com coined White Friday in 2014 because Friday is the day of prayer in the Arab world. Amazon and noon both anchor their biggest sale of the year to it, and the dates track the US Black Friday weekend.
How deep should my White Friday discount be?
Run the contribution math first. In our illustrative example, a 25% sitewide discount on a 55% margin product cuts profit per order by almost half and raises breakeven ROAS from 1.8 to 2.5. Discount a few traffic products deeply and protect the rest with bundles and gift sets.
When should I start White Friday ad campaigns?
Have audiences warm by 13 November and launch nothing cold after 20 November. In 2025 the Meta CPM climb started in the week of 10 November, but in 2024 it began in mid-October, so the safe plan is to be building from 1 November.
Does 11.11 matter in the Gulf?
Increasingly. noon ran its biggest ever 11.11 sale from 7 to 12 November 2025 with discounts up to 80%, and Saudi and UAE marketplaces have adopted the event. For a DTC brand, its best use is as a signal builder: a moderate offer that warms your pixel and your lists before the peak.
